John Krasinski knew he was shaking the hand of his wife the first time he met Emily Blunt.
The Jack Ryan star shared some sweet insight into his 14-year marriage to the British actress, noting their romance was love at first sight for him.
“The second I met her?” he told People in his Sexiest Man Alive cover story of knowing Blunt was the one. “I don't know what happened, but I remember someone introduced us, and it was across a room in a restaurant, and I walked over to her. And as soon as I shook her hand, I just knew.”
The 45-year-old now shares daughters Hazel, 10, and Violet, 8, with the Devil Wears Prada actress, and explained how their relationship only gets stronger over time.
“It’s that beautiful thing where when you’re married to someone, you’re constantly learning and changing and constantly evolving,” he said. “And I’m so lucky to go through all that with her.”
The actors alternate their work schedule to account for being active participants in their daughters’ lives.
“You never want to work at the same time because it's not only important to be there for the kids, it's important for us because I think it keeps us completely and totally centered,” Krasinski explained. “Listen, it's a juggle when you're traveling around the world, but luckily we've got great kids and great friends and family who allow us to, when we travel, bring the whole circus with us.”
And Krasinski and Blunt, 41, also are sure to make time for themselves as a couple.
“We love going out to a dinner, just getting out,” Krasinski shared. “The kids will ask, ‘What? You're going out?’ And it's like, ‘Yeah, it's the first time in four months. Thanks.’ When we go out on a date, it's usually dinner and catching up. Because weirdly, that's the thing that you don't always get a chance to do.”
One special milestone in their relationship was appearing in The Quiet Place films together, which Krasinski wrote and directed.
“It turned out to be incredible,” Krasinski recalled of the “thrilling” experience. “Listen, having her trust and having her talent in that movie is the core reason why the movie is successful. So it was awesome.”
